FRAGMENTA - Beauty in fragmentation is the natural evolution of my Promenade.

Fragmenta raccoglie immagini di strada (intendo qualsiasi luogo pubblico) che hanno attraversato il mio presente.

Sono fotografie realizzate in pochissimi secondi grazie ad un iPhone.

Grazie ad esso ho potuto creare immagini dove lo spettatore può concentrarsi a guardare le esistenze, gli esseri umani, senza distrazioni; infatti, la particolarità di queste immagini è che l'intelligenza artificiale dell'iPhone, in particolari circostanze di contrasto dei soggetti umani e condizioni di luce, taglia alcune parti del corpo delle persone e degli oggetti inquadrati, creando situazioni particolari che decido di trasformare in significato.

Un significato che l'algoritmo non distingue e che i suoi creatori non hanno saputo prevedere; nessun essere umano avrebbe potuto prevedere ciò.

Con questo progetto io vado a cercare ciò che l'algoritmo (anche il più perfetto) non potrà mai prevedere, e lo trasformo in nuovo significato.

Queste immagini sono nei miei ricordi, sono pezzi della mia memoria che con il passare del tempo perderanno definizione e dettaglio. Rimarranno immagini traballanti in cui i dettagli delle persone diventano imprecisi e parte del corpo umano viene persa. Questo per me non è un problema perché desidero che ogni frammento prosegua la sua vita e viva il proprio futuro, indipendentemente dal fotografo. Le immagini così ottenute a causa di un bug dell'algoritmo sono una metafora del modo in cui i ricordi cambiano, si alterano ed eventualmente si erodono nel tempo; un discorso che richiede non solo una riflessione filosofica.

Quando guardo Fragmenta, apprezzo l'uso della fotografia come un'esigenza personale, quindi uno strumento di coscienza.

E per chi guarda? Io spero che le mie immagini possano toccare e stimolare il subconscio, la fantasia ad un nuovo modo di guardare la realtà.

“Fragmenta – Beauty in fragmentation” is a collection of street pictures (‘street’ meaning any public place) that have crossed my present; these photographs are taken in just a iPhone.

That’s how I was able to create an image that allows the viewer to concentrate on looking at existences and human beings without any distraction.

The peculiarity of this image is that the artificial intelligence of the iPhone, in particular circumstances of contrast of human subjects and light conditions, cuts some parts of the body of people and the objects they use, creating particular situations that I decide to transform into meaning.

A meaning that the algorithm does not distinguish and that its creators have not been able to predict; no human being could have foreseen it.

With this project I am going to look for what the algorithm (even the most perfect) will never be able to predict, and I transform into new meaning.

These images are pieces of my memory that with the passage of time will slowly lose definition and detail. Shaky images will remain where people's details become inaccurate and part of the human body is forever lost. This is not a problem for me because I want each fragment to continue its life and live its future, regardless of the photographer. The images thus obtained due to an algorithm bug are a metaphor for the way in which memories change, alter and eventually erode over time; a discourse that requires not only a philosophical reflection.

When I look at Fragmenta, I appreciate the use of photography as a personal need, therefore a tool of conscience.

And what about people looking at these pictures? I hope my photos can touch and stimulate their subconscious.

« Fragmenta – beauté en fragmentation » est une collection d'images de rue (« rue » signifiant tout lieu public) qui ont traversé mon présent ; ces photographies sont prises en quelques secondes grâce à une fonction particulière de l'iPhone.

C'est ainsi que j'ai pu créer une image qui permet au spectateur de se concentrer sur le regard des existences et des êtres humains sans aucune distraction.

La particularité de ces images est que l'intelligence artificielle de l'iPhone, dans des circonstances particulières de contraste des sujets humains et des conditions d'éclairage, coupe certaines parties du corps des personnes et des objets qu'elles utilisent, créant des situations particulières que je décide de transformer en sens.

Un sens que l'algorithme ne distingue pas et que ses créateurs n'ont pas su prévoir; aucun être humain n'aurait pu le prévoir.

Avec ce projet je vais chercher ce que l'algorithme (même le plus parfait) ne pourra jamais prédire, et je le transforme en nouveau sens.

Ces images sont des morceaux de ma mémoire qui, avec le temps, perdront lentement de leur définition et de leurs détails. Les images tremblantes resteront là où les détails des gens deviennent inexacts et une partie du corps humain est perdue à jamais. Ce n'est pas un problème pour moi car je veux que chaque fragment continue sa vie et vive son avenir, quel que soit le photographe.

Les images ainsi obtenues grâce à un bug d'algorithme sont une métaphore de la façon dont les souvenirs changent, s'altèrent et finalement s'érodent au fil du temps; un discours qui demande non seulement une réflexion philosophique.

Quand je regarde Fragmenta, j'apprécie l'utilisation de la photographie comme un besoin personnel, donc un outil de conscience.

Et qu'en est-il des gens qui regardent ces images? J'espère que mes photos pourront toucher et stimuler leur subconscient.
